Professional Experience:

Journalist and teacher, of English since 1975 having served several English dailies in different capacities, beginning as a feature editor & lead writer in 1977 and steadily moving on to senior positions mainly to take charge of the editorial section and special pages on development, environment and human resource issues, including health & nutrition, education & gender justice, livelihoods & leisure. Currently on extraordinary leave from The Bangladesh Observer. At present involved as a part time faculty, teaching English at Dhaka University and also an Editorial Consultant for The Financial Express in Dhaka.

'The Negro C'est Moi', a brief study of Black American Poetry, published in The Chittagong University Studies, during tenure as Lecturer in the Department of English, 1982.

'People, Politics and Projects the Flood Action Plan in Bangladesh', paper presented at Reuter Foundation Fellowship Seminar, University of Oxford, UK, 1993.

'Rivers of Life', an anthology of critical articles on FAP, 1994, published by the London-based PANOS Institute in collaboration with The Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies (BCAS), Dhaka.

'Nuclear Waste: Political Hot Potato', a paper on the mind-boggling problems of nuclear waste management, inspired by rumours of waste laden ships dumping their deadly cargo in the waters of Asia. It was a project paper for The Thomson Foundation Fellowship Programme, Cardiff, UK, 1996.
